  • Failure modeling of thermoplastics

    Hello all,

I am using PolyUMod for modeling thermoplastics -specifically PP and UHMWPE. I am interested in failure at large deformations (fracture) under multiaxial loading. How can I set a failure model for such cases? I read in one of Dr. Bergstrom's paper that chain strain is the best value to predict failure but I don't know what value I should set and I am not sure if this single value will capture the failure in compression as well.
    Thanks

The chain stretch criterion work rather well in many cases.
Give it a try and let us know how it goes.
