  • Cardboard and polyethylene material properties, ANSYS

Hi, I am trying to model polyethylene foam and corrugated cardboard in ANSYS. Does anybody know what the material properties of either materials are? or what element type they would be? this is for a final term project. Thanks!

That is a difficult question to answer since there are different PE foams and cardboard materials with quite different properties.

Can you perform a few tests?
    What application are you studying?

I'm modeling a laptop in a box with packing foam as though the laptop were brand new and then applying different loads as though the box were dropped to determine how well the foam packing protects the laptop. I'm assuming the cardboard and PE foams are very common types. The simpler the better in this case. I am not able to perform tests.

I am afraid that I don't have data to share :(

        Best of luck,

Hi, I need to do the same, and I have the ability to perform a few tests.
I tried to use crushable foam with Ansys explicit based on uniaxial compression test, but I afraid it is not enough
Which test are you recommend on (for PE only) for drop test uses
            Thanks!
