Hi Dr Bergstrom,

I am using the PN model and would like to define a failure criterion along with the model.

The MCalibration tutorial mentions the following steps.

1. Select the PN model and run calibration to obtain a fit to experimental data.

2. Add the failure model to the existing PN model and save the new material model.

3. Remove all optimize variables apart from Smax.

4. Edit the load case and set failure time to use MCalibration failure model.

5. Rerun the calibration so that the predicted values also drop along the experimental values.

After step 1 the predicted curve matches with the experimental curve.

However when I try to execute step 5 I find that MCalibration tries to fit the predicted curve again from the start rather than continuing from the fit obtained at step 1.

Following this it is unable to fit the predicted curve with the experimental one.

The attachments show the plotted curves.

Please suggest if I need to make any changes.

Thanks,

Shouvik

That sounds unusual. You can use the 2-step calibration approach that you mentioned. Or often it is possible to determine the failure parameters by hand.
