Wired deformed shape after refinement???

Hi All,

I got some experiences after mesh refinement.

Problem statement:

1.Easy periodic example with 4 layers of S4R shell element as shown in picture 1 and 2.

2.Applied periodic boundary conditions(rotation) along short edges.

3.There are normal contact for each layers.

4.I assigned contact pairs as follows:

- layer1(master) - layer2(slave)

- layer1(master) - layer3(slave)

- layer2(master) - layer3(slave)

- layer3(master) - layer4(slave)

5.The deformed shape is shown in picture 3 for the first run.

6.As you can see, there are penetration around surface. I want to eliminate that using mesh refinement as Abaqus manual recommendation. So I made slave mesh finer than master as picture 4.

7.After re-run it again, I got wired deformation in picture 5.

I have no idea whats wrong???.

Any recommend/suggestions are appreciated.

Hi All,

I want to share experience of my problem with anyone who might faces the same issue with me.
I think the last picture results came from node set I defined. Like I posted on my thread Annoying warning, Abaqus will accept no more than 16 items of defined node set.
The rest of them will be deleted. So even I match my node set beyond 16 items correctly, they will not be used in my MPC since Abaqus eliminate them already. Thats why Ive got wired deformed shape.
