Hi all,

I am a newbie to Ansys Workbench. I have a problem with boundary conditions. I am analysing a 2d model where in a D shaped model is in contact with a square plate. The lower end of the square plate is fixed at bottom at both ends but free to move in Y direction on top end whereas the flat side of the D is fixed in Y direction but given a certain velocity in X direction. I was able to fix the bottom end as well as give velocity but dont know how to fix just one direction for the top end as well as the flat side. Can you guys help me implement these boundary conditions please.

Thanks in advance,

Bruce

Hi Bruce,

Can you not just specify the displacement boundary conditions in Workbench (WB)? See image.

Hello,

Thank you so much Sir. I was able to do it via some videos on youtube but your input confirmed that I was on the right path.

Now that I have the solution I have few questions regarding the solution and varying of parameters.

1.The D side is the contact surface and the edge of the square is the target so when I model it in Ansys workbench without any gap between the two, the contact is as shown in file attached (Contact.jpg) and when I check the initial contact information, it is as shown in file attached (Contact Information.jpg). What does this actually mean and does it affect my solution in any way?

2. Ansys workbench uses HHT time integration method as default for transient analysis but I want to use Newmark time integration method for my problem. How can I do that?

Thanks in advance.
