Hi all,

for my studies I have to create a simualtion model of a thermoplastic gear using ANSYS. The viscoelastic behaviour is described with the help of prony series. In the model Im looking only at one tooth which is loaded by a sinus force. Now Id like to calculate the storage energy, loss energy and damping for each cycle, but I have no idea how to do it best.

Do you have any suggestions how to proceed in ANSYS???

I would be very happy if anyone could give me some advice at this point. Thanks for your help.

Best regards

Johannes

In vague terms, all you need to do is extract the proper energy terms from ANSYS.
For details, see the manuals...

Hello Jorgen,

thanks for your answer. Just one more question: As Im using viscoelastic material properties I expected to be able to recognize a shift between stress and strain when looking at both plotted over time. But I cant identify a shift when looking at the plots in ANSYS. Is the shift just too small to identify when looking at the plots? Is it an indication of a failure in my material model? Or do I get anything else wrong?

Thanks for your help.

Johannes
