Bending Analysis using Generalized Plane Strain Conditions

Dear all,

We want to model deformations of a complex cross-section due to bending. To simplify this analysis, generalized plane strain elements appear to be an useful feature, since we can assume constant curvature and are only interested in sections stresses and strains.

So far I have difficulties in understanding the application of theses elements.

In a very basic investigation I defined a simple rectangular cross section and applied a generalized plane moment about one axis at the reference point of the part.

Given the symmetric problem definition, I would assume a symmetric deformation of the cross section. However, the result is an asymmetric deformation and also a heavy dependency on the type of generalized plane strain elements that are defined.

Does anyone have experience with this kind of elements or know useful resources?
