hello
Im doing cutting simulationg and i do not know how to understand some parameters of the material model in abaquss help.
What is the damage initiation and the damage evolution. And whats the relation between them. How can i determine the displacement at failure .
Or you can give me some articles or some books, thats very kind of you.
Thanks.

hi Chenxian
the damage initiation is an option used to provide material properties that define the initiation of damage. but the damage evolution is an option used to provide material properties that define the evolution of damage leading to eventual failure. It must be used in conjunction with the DAMAGE INITIATION option.
with some delay 🙂

hi CHENX
it depends of the material used for the simulation.we can find many kinds of damage initiation : Damage initiation for ductile metals,Damage initiation for fiber-reinforced composites,Damage initiation for ductile materials in low-cycle fatigue,...
if you use ductile material with plane strain hypothesis, you can utilize this: Gf=((kc)^2(1-v))/E
when : Gf is the damage evolution
kc is the fracture toughness( propriety of the material)
v is the poissons ratio
E is the Young&#8217,s modulus
good luck...
