I am currently testing an elastomer in uniaixal tension, compression and planar. I plan to use the data for modelling in ABAQUS but I also have to do some tests for the viscoelastic response so I was thinking about doing a creep/relaxation test. Does anyone know if there are specific methods for this or is it simply a normal creep test as you would do with a metal (i.e. apply a step change strain and see how the stress with respect to time looks)

You can use a simple old-school creep or stress relaxation test. The results from those test are just fine.

Another approach, that is less well known, is that you can equally well use testing at different strain rates to extract information about the viscoelastic behavior of the material.
