What happed when the material is flaged as Deleted on failure?

Dear all,
I was wounding what really happed when the material is flaged as Deleted by setting the controlling SDSV as 0 in the VUMAT. The manual says that the deleted material point is not actually deleted from the block, but system will pass zero stress and stain increments for deleted material points. So, instead of setting the controlling SDSV as 0 to explicitly "delete" the material at failure, I set zero stressNew and strainInc for them in the VUMAT. But, the simulation result are quite different.Looks that the reaction force are 10 times larger. Can anyone please explain this?

That sounds strange!

You should simply check if that state variable is zero at the start of you VUMAT code. If so, it should not matter what stress you return.
Also, make sure you are using the latest version of Abaqus.
