    Coil spring modelling

    Hello guys,

First of all, I am new on the forum. I have been trying to learn Abaqus for a while and I find here so useful. I hope I can give my contributions on here as well.

My first question here is :

I have a catia step file of a coil spring. What I would like to perform is actually simple. I will fix the bottom side of the spring (ancastre) and will apply a load from the upper side.

However, at this point, I want this whole shape to act like a spring. In the Assembly Section/ Engineering Features/ Springs-Dashpots, there is a section which I can impose stiffness. And it is from one point to the other point. But I want to apply stiffness for the entire shape, instead of some nodes on the shape.

    I hope I am clear.

    Thanks

I don't quite follow. You can represent a coil spring using a FE model of the spring geometry, or using a "spring element".
