strain gauge for measuring the change in width of rubber

    Hi all,

I am trying to find out the Poisson's ratio of rubber. I am using Shimadzu tensile testing machine. It has strain gauges only for measurement along its length. For measuring changes in width i am left with the option of using independent strain gauges because of unavailability of funds and equipment. I asked the vendors at my area and they had only strain gauge for steels and aluminium. I need a suggestion about the exact code or name of strain gauge that i can use of rubber. I have known from reading the old threads that there are some laser strain gauges available. Can someone suggest some specific strain gauge and vendor or supplier.

My project thesis has come to halt because of this issue and any suggestion in this regard will be very highly appreciated.

    Regards

A quick google search for "laser extensometer suppliers" lists the top 3 manufacturers.
Note that those extensometers can be relatively expensive.

I am curious why you need to determine the Poisson's ratio.
There are only a few cases in which you actually need to measure the Poisson's ratio or rubbers.
In most cases a simple estimation of (approximately) nu=0.4995 (or so), is sufficient.
