Modeling Carburizing Heat Treatment process in ABAQUS

Dear All,

I am interested in modeling the carburizing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carburizing) heat treatment process in ABAQUS. Actually the carburizing process follows the ficks second law of diffusion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fick's_laws_of_diffusion). If any one had prior experience or any suggestions to model the process, kindly share your views.

Are you interested in also quenching the material? If so, you'd have to have a constitutive model that accounts for martensitic transformtations, TRIP, etc., and ABAQUS does not have anything like that to my knowledge. There is, however, an add-on which I believe can do heat treatment simulations well: Google 'ABAQUS' and 'Dante'.

(By the way, heat treatment is a bit far from polymers, no..? Well, at least you seem to have an affinity for carbon, and so do polymer chains.)
