Unhappy Infinite element modeling in 3D - Abaqus/Explicit

    Hello,

I am trying to apply infinite elements to model non-reflecting boundary conditions.
The problem deals with wave propagation in ground, and I am trying to model infinite conditions for the ground in 3D.
But, I face an error as follows:

    ************************************************** **************
    Abaqus Error: The executable /usr/apps/isv10/abaqus/6.7-1/exec/package.exe
aborted with system error "Illegal memory reference" (signal 11).
Please check the .dat, .msg, and .sta files for error messages if the files
exist. If there are no error messages and you cannot resolve the problem,
please run the command "abaqus job=support information=support" to report and
save your system information. Use the same command to run Abaqus that you
used when the problem occurred. Please contact your local Abaqus support
office and send them the input file, the file support.log which you just
created, the executable name, and the error code.
    Abaqus/Analysis exited with errors

    **************************************************

Is there anyone who has experience working with infinite elements in 3D?
Previously, I have worked with infinite elements in 2D by editing the *.inp file, but I am wondering if I can follow the same procedure in 3D.
    Any advice is highly appreciated.

    Regards,
    Ramin

    Question a correction

I should add the error that I get in *.dat file:

***WARNING: THE OPTION *BOUNDARY,TYPE=DISPLACEMENT HAS BEEN USED; CHECK STATUS
FILE BETWEEN STEPS FOR WARNINGS ON ANY JUMPS PRESCRIBED ACROSS THE
STEPS IN DISPLACEMENT VALUES OF TRANSLATIONAL DOF. FOR ROTATIONAL
DOF MAKE SURE THAT THERE ARE NO SUCH JUMPS. ALL JUMPS IN
    DISPLACEMENTS ACROSS STEPS ARE IGNORED

As you, I have used inifinite elements in 2D. I am not sure I have tried it in 3D...

The error message that you provided sounds like a bug. I recommend that you contact your local Abaqus support office.

    Thanks for your reply.
Though I contacted the local support agency, they say that they can NOT provide any support considering the type of contract. It's really pity!

Hi, I am modelling a 3D simulation of an enclosed cylinder that has uniform pressure acting on it apart from one of the enclosed sides which has boundary conditions applied to it. I am receiving the same error message above. I understand that this thread is quite old but i was wondering if you had any success in solving this error message.
I await your response in kind. Thanks alot,
