» Welcome!
info This site is an independent forum for discussing constitutive models for polymers and their implementation in general purpose finite element programs. What you will find here are general information about material behavior, useful constitutive models, and numerical implementations. The goal of this site is to become a useful reference for constitutive models for polymers. Researchers and users are encouraged to submit results and to request information.

Abaqus V6.9 is out...
2009-06-02 - by Jorgen
Jorgen's Avatar For all of you Abaqus user's out there, Simulia has released a new version of Abaqus: V6.9. I am happy to announce that this version works just fine on the latest version of Ubuntu and Kubuntu 9.04.

The new version V6.9 contains a number of enhancements to the pre- and post-processor (CAE) and support for the extended finite element method (XFEM) among other things. The XFEM feature seems particularly cool to me since it allows for simulation of crack growth along arbitrary... [Read More]

ANSYS 12: Bergstrom-Boyce Model
2009-05-19 - by Jorgen
Jorgen's Avatar I just learned that ANSYS 12 now has built-in support for the Bergstrom-Boyce model. This happens to be a model that I developed a few years ago when I was at MIT and worked with Professor Mary Boyce.

I would be curious to hear peoples comments on how the ANSYS implementation of this model is working. Have anyone tried it out yet?

I would be interested in hearing... [Read More]

Abaqus V6.8 on Ubuntu 9.04
2009-04-26 - by Jorgen
Jorgen's Avatar If you are running the finite element program Abaqus you might be interested in learning that it is not too difficult to install Abaqus V6.8 on the latest version of Ubuntu Linux 9.04.

The steps that i followed are the same as I used for the previous version of Ubuntu, and which are discussed in this thread.

The only problem I have is that Abaqus/CAE does not work with Visual effects... [Read More]

Polymer FE Modeling Training Class - Spring 2009
2009-02-23 - by Jorgen
Jorgen's Avatar
Do you perform FEA of polymer components but don't know the tradeoffs, pitfalls, and benefits of different constitutive models, modeling options, and material test methods?

Do you want to get a competitive advantage by using more advanced and accurate FEA techniques?

Then attend the two-day training seminar that I will be giving in Boston, May 12 and 13,
