This site is an independent forum for discussing constitutive models for polymers and their implementation in general purpose finite element programs. What you will find here are general information about material behavior, useful constitutive models, and numerical implementations. The goal of this site is to become a useful reference for constitutive models for polymers. Researchers and users are encouraged to submit results and to request information.

Howto Install ABAQUS on Ubuntu 8.04 (including support for UMAT subroutines) |
|
2008-04-24 - by Jorgen

If you are running the finite element program Abaqus you might be interested in learning that it is not too difficult to install it on the latest version of Ubuntu Linux 8.04. There are probably different ways to install Abaqus so that you can run any computer simulation, including user-material models (UMAT and VUMAT) subroutines.
Here are the step that I took to install the Abaqus v6.7-EF on a i386 computer running Ubuntu 8.04:

Dynamic Loading Elastomers - Constitutive Modeling Review |
|
2008-04-24 - by Jorgen
|
I will be giving a presentation about how to perform accurate finite element simulations of the dynamic loading response of elastomers and rubbers at the upcoming 2008 Abaqus Users' Conference. My presentation will review how different constitutive models such as hyperelasticity (neo-Hookean), linear viscoelasticity, and the Bergstrom-Boyce model, can predict the storage modulus E' and the loss modulus E" as a... Polymer Modeling Training Class - April 2008 |
|
2008-02-08 - by Jorgen

Do you perform FEA of polymer components but don't know the tradeoffs, pitfalls, and benefits of different constitutive models, modeling options, and material test methods?
Do you want to get a competitive advantage by using more advanced and accurate FEA techniques?
Then attend the two-day training seminar that I will be giving in Boston April 7 and 8, 2007. See the following ... [Read More]

FeFp Model in ABAQUS |
|
2008-01-28 - by Jorgen
|
The most recent extended functionality release of ABAQUS (v6.7-EF) contains a new model called the FeFp model. A lot of people have asked me about how this model works, and since the ABAQUS manuals do not provide much information I decided to performe a study of how this new model works for elastomers and thermoplastics. You can read the results from this study here, or in the attached document. ... [Read More]

Python script for emailing ABAQUS status |
2007-12-29 - by Jorgen
|
Sometimes I am running large simulations that take hours or even days to complete. In some of these cases I would like to be notified as soon as a the simulation finishes.
To make this possible I wrote a simple python script file that first starts ABAQUS, and then when the simulation finishes sends an email with the sta-file attached.
The script file can be used the same way as ABAQUS is used at the command prompt - simply replace ... [Read More]
