• Windows 7 & Abaqus

The new Windows OS - Windows 7 - is scheduled to be released this fall. I have been trying out the release candidate of Windows 7 that is available and I am happy to let all Abaqus users know that Abaqus V6.9-1 works just fine on Windows 7.

There is one trick that you may need to use, however, to install Abaqus on Windows 7. If you try to install the software just from the DVD then you might run into the problem that I did, i.e. the Abaqus installation program complained that I was trying to install the 32-bit version on a 64-bit computer. Well, that was not quite right since I was in fact using a 32-bit computer.

One way to fix this problem is to:
    1. Copy the files from the installation DVD to the local hard drive
    2. Set the exe-files to run in XP compatibility mode. You can set this by right clicking on the exe-file and then select the compatibility tab and set the compatibility mode from there.

If you perform these two steps then you can install Abaqus without any other issues.

For the record, Abaqus 6.10 can also be installed without problem on Windows 7.
