crack propagation

Hi there,

we are looking to slow down the crack growth rate of a polymeric component.
We have traditionally considered the tear test (trousers and crescent) results as a meaningful indicator, but a review of fracture mechanics principles and some research clearly shows these are partial and misleading.

Does anyone has a good knowledge of state of art methods for measuring the crack propagation performance of an elastomer?

I think that people typically perform tear tests when evaluating the crack resistance of elastomers. And I agree that it is not the greatest of all tests.

If you are not happy with a simple tear test then I recommend component specific tests that are targeted to the real design and loading conditions.
