sir,
I am student of IIT Delhi (India) doing my final year project in piezolaminated composite. I have to model piezoelectric hybrid beam in ABAQUS as 2-D problem. Beam is thin span-to-thickness ratio=100.There are 5 layes, top layer is piezoelectric material layer. Orientations are 0/90/90/0/0.
i have to apply sinusoidal pressure load which i can apply through DLOAD subroutine in ABAQUS. Top and bottom of substrate has to be grounded ( apply zero voltage). Please tell me which element should i use?? i have tried with SHELL element but problem is that how to apply zero potential at interface between substrate and top piezoelectric material layer. so please give some hints or guidelines.
Thank you very much

If you cannot use shell elements due to your electrical boundary condition, perhaps you can try to use 3D elements. That should be OK as long as you keep the elements small.
