View Full Version : a viscoelastic polymaer and a polyurethane material
My question is
I have a sorbothane "a viscoelastic polymaer and a polyurethane material"
I need to include it in my FEA sandwich structure simulation. First I have to do some kind of measurement to come up with the coefficient(s) in the prony series. What is the best and efficient measurement for my case?
any help is appreciate it.
Hello wshrr,
The most appropriate measurement (experiment) for your case will depend on what loading your sandwich structure will be exposed to.
For example,
 What state of strain are you mostly interested in? Uniaxial tension, compression, shear?
 What are the magnitudes of strain that you are interested in?
 What is the temperature range you are you interested in?
Two common experimental techniques are dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and traditional tension or compression tests.

Thank you Jorgen
I think I need to read more in depth in this part, do you have any good sources to help me gain more knowledge to my problem
There are many textbooks that discuss the polymer mechanics, including prony series. For a summary of a few popular books see the SQ's post (http://polymerfem.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=651).
