Hi

I'm looking for stress/strain data for Latex used in surgical gloves. Can anyone point me to a source? Also looking for a value for density.

Thanks
Cormac

That's a tough question. My understanding is that Latex gloves are made of vulcanized natural rubber (NR, IR, Polyisoprene). Unfilled NR has a density of about 950 kg/m^3, and a small strain Young's modulus of about 0.5 MPa.

If you need accurate stress-strain data I suggest performing a few tension tests on cut specimens from the surgical gloves that you are interested in.

Best of luck,
Jorgen

Wow. You are going to need a -very- sensitive load transducer for this.

Okay, maybe here's a more constructive thought:

An equibiaxial test of a sample cut from the surgical glove may be very appropriate given the thin nature of your material.
