View Full Version : different abaqus version behavior
Hi,
I have a problem I in explicit, large def.contacts, hyperelastic material. I ran it in abaqus 6.4-4 and got it to work. Now the same problem, same input file same everything ran it in abaqus 6.5 and it aborts with large distortion of elements. I was wondering why that would happen and if anyone has experienced similar problems?

That sounds like a really annoying problem! I have not noticed anything like that with V6.5. It sounds like you might have discovered a bug in V6.5.
I recommend that you submit your question together with the input file directly to ABAQUS. They should hopefully be able to figure out the problem is

My past experience with abaqus have been quite good. I reported two bugs to abaqus before and got confirmation in a few days. the recent one with cohesive element got confirmed with several hours. however, since contact and hyperelasticity model have not gone through much improvement from 6.4 - 6.5. on the other hand, the damage models and cohesive elements have many bugs, took me quite sometime as I always suspect I did something wrong first.
Hello,
I talked to abaqus support. But I dont think they have any solution as to why the analysis wont work in 6.5. One solution was to change the default HOURGLASS=ENHANCED in 6.5 to STIFFNESS but that also did not work. One more thing was that I have the 'NO SEPARATION' on between the hyperelastic material and other componets, that might be causing a problem in 6.5. Taking that off the problem works but the results (seen from the deformation plot) are wrong.
I am not sure why the problem works in all ways in 6.4-4 and not in any way in 6.5.
