Balloon blowing

We have tried to model blow moulding of Nylon12 parison into a balloon (catheter) shape using FEM program MSC.MARC but our results such as compliance of the blown balloon (i.e. internal pressure versus balloon diameter) and crossectional thickness doesn't match with the real results. For example in reality we see in the crossection of balloon that the material has thick and thin places but in modelled balloon we see that crossection is completely uniform (ideal circles). Could you suggest how we can get closer to real results?

Hi sgarkhai,

Interesting problem. What temperature is the material at the moulding operation? What pressures, stresses, and strains do the balloon reach?
What material model do you use to represent the Nylon12?

In my experience, it should be possible to get quite nice agreement between experimental data and the FE simulations for these types of problems :!:
