Dear Dr Jorgen,

I have one question for structure analysis of PET bottle. When we simulate the top load or drop test of PET bottle w/ Aaqus, what kind of PET material data is suitable? As we know, the PET bottle is manufacured by ISBM process, that is, PET-preform should be stretched both in axial and circumference direction, which for sure has influence on the Mechnism performance on PET. I am wondering how to get such proper material data and whay kind of test can asistant to get it?

Thanks in advance!

You are right that the material response can certainly be different in different directions. To evaluate the magnitude of the anisotropic response you should be able to create and test small tension specimens cut from the PET bottle.

thanks,

Now I am preparing to cut some flakes from bottle and tensile it with INSTRON tester, but is there any specific requirement for the size of flakes, such as width, length?

this forum is very useful, thanks again.

I would try to make the test specimens relatively large, as long as they are almost straight. I would also try to mimic the ASTM/ISO test specimen standards for tensile tests.
