Dear all,

I have a problem. I am using ABAQUS CAE to generate and analyse a model. I created a node set so I can request a history output of variables associated with them. In the visualisation module I plot a stress component of these node set and my results are good. When plot the strain variable of the same component I get very "wierd" results. For example the result could be constant at a negative value or very dicontinious. The difference between the stress and strain results should be a constant.

I should also mention the I created an orphan mesh from my native meshed part. I the performed all subsequent analysis on this orphan mesh. This is because Abaqus only create nodes and element sets for orphan mesh part. I am also using Abaqus explicit for the problem.

In my view I dont think these wierd results are related to the actuall problem I am simulating, But If knowledge of the actual problem will help please let me know and I would gladly provide more details.

So please If anyone has encountered similar problems or can spot what I am doing wrong it will be great. Thank you in advance.

That sounds strange. Abaqus explicit can give strange results if not used properly, but I don't see how it could give correct stress data but wrong strain data :?:

Have you tried to filter the data?

No! I have not tried that. I did not think that if the stress data was smooth the problem will be a filtering problem. I will try filtering and see what happens. I also realised that the discontinuos nature of the strain data increases with an increase in the mesh density. I dont suppose it might have something to do with the orphan mesh part I am using for the analysis?

Thanks!

It should not matter if you use an orphan mesh or a native mesh.
